Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home is honored to offer
families the opportunity to bring their loved one home for the wake
and/or vigil.
Before Funeral Homes came into existence, the deceased were
often laid out in the "parlor" of their family home. This is
how the name Funeral Parlor came to be, which at times this term is
still used today to refer to the local Funeral Home. In the late
19th century and prior, families used their homes for
all of life's big events. The family parlor played host to
weddings, baptisms, and funerals. It wasn't until the early
20th century that the funeral parlor came into prominence and the
funeral left the home.
We at Robinson, Wright & Weymer believe that there is
comfort in knowing that we can assist in a home-based event.
We will direct families in all aspects of the service; laying
out the deceased, supplying the necessary furniture
and equipment, staffing, coordinating with clergy, and the
final procession from the home.
